Details

Blood platelets = the platelet count from the patient’s CBC (in platelets * 1000/μL).

Blood volume = the volume (before anticoagulants or diluent is added) of blood used/needed to produce the PRP (in milliliters).

Yield = the average yield of the PRP preparation method as a percent.

PRP platelets = the platelet count of the PRP (in platelets * 1000/μL).

PRP volume = the volume of PRP needed/produced (in milliliters)

Weight = the patient’s weight in kilograms.

Dose = the total number of platelets in the PRP.

Dose/kg = the dose of platelets per kg of patient’s weight.

Examples:

1. You want to know how many platelets you will get if you centrifuge 20ml of blood with 250k platelets/μL with a method that has a yield of 65% and produces 2ml of PRP. Enter the blood platelets (250), blood volume (20), Yield (65), and PRP volume (2) into the appropriate fields. Click the Calculate button next to the PRP platelets field. Result =

2. You want to know how much blood you will need to draw to get a PRP platelet dose of 500k/kg. You have a CBC (PLT=200k/ μL). and the patient’s weight (70kg).You know your method’s yield is 67% and your desired volume of PRP is 10ml for this injection.

Enter the Dose/kg (500000), the patient’s weight (70), the Yield (67), the blood platelets (200) and desired PRP volume (let’s say 10ml) into their fields. Click the Calculate button next to the Dose field. The dose will appear. Now click the Calculate button next to the PRP platelets field and that value will be calculated. Finally click the Calculate button next to the Blood volume field and the blood volume required to produce the desired amount of PRP at the required concentration will be calculated and displayed in the field.
